Two Important Mental Practices to be Implemented Daily

Swami Nikhilanand Ji

So, when you're engaged in some activity, it's very easy to forget that Shri Krishna is with me. We could forget for hours. Eight hours, ten hours, twelve hours may go by before we remember, “Oh, yes! I was supposed to be thinking that Krishna is with me, and I didn't think about that once in the last twelve hours. Shame on me! How did I let the whole day go by?”

So, since this is our nature initially; it's very common. It's very natural for a person to forget God like this because our mind is more attached in the world initially. So we have to give the mind a technique that allows it to practice remembering Krishna throughout the day. That is very simple. Every hour, on the hour, stop what we are doing and have that faithful thought for just a few seconds, “Krishna is with me! He's right here! Yeah. He's looking at me!” See? We made that connection to Him. That also purifies the heart. Even a few seconds of that meditation purifies the heart, increases our connection to Shri Krishna, and strengthens our faith. Because the more you have those faithful thoughts, the stronger our faith becomes. We're working up towards 100%.

These are the two mental practices, that have to be taken seriously and implemented on a daily basis. One, the roopdhyan where we sit for some dedicated time away from any other activity, and we just practice roopdhyan. And the other one at intervals, every hour we stop and just do a few seconds meditation, “Oh, Krishna's right here! I can see Him looking at me. Okay. Back to work!” That gives you the ability to break that cycle of forgetting. We're so engaged in our stressful day. You break that and you remember Krishna, then again next hour, again next hour.

This is the power of the mind that simply by practicing these, you develop your surrender to Shri Krishna and your faith in Shri Krishna, and you can become God realized just by practicing with your mind in this way. God-realized means when we're 100% attached to Shri Krishna, then He appears in front of us. We see Him. We experience His Divine bliss, and then we're never away from Him again.
