Moksha (liberation) is the king of deceptions. Why? Because if you get liberation, you are freed from the sufferings of this world forever because you’ll never be born here again. When you leave your body having attained moksh, you will not be born again. So it means you won’t get another body - no more reincarnation, no more senses, no more mind. Just your soul, with no faculties to allow you to experience anything. The soul always has the potential to experience, to know, to think, and to do. But without a body, mind, and senses, the soul can’t do any of these things. This is the state of moksh. You leave maya (material illusion), you merge into Shree Krishna, but into His formless aspect, and remain in this state of no experience forever (with) no awareness of anything.
So you merged into God, who is bliss, but you have no awareness of your own blissfulness. Basically, it is like being in a Divine coma forever, perfectly peaceful, but with no awareness of your peaceful state. So Mahaprabhuji says,
“Wouldn’t you rather at least stay, maintain your state of awareness, maintain your personality, and live in the world where, yes, you suffer, but you also enjoy some pleasures? Isn’t that better than nothing, which is basically what the state of moksh is - a state of nothingness?”
So moksh robs you of the chance to ever experience true happiness. Now, I said it would be better to stay in the world; at least you can enjoy worldly pleasures. But that’s not the real thing. The real reason for being in this world is to get a chance to attain the third option, which is prem (Divine love), or bhakti (devotion).
As long as someone keeps being born in this world, they don’t get moksh. They keep coming back again and again, chasing worldly pleasures. Fine. Eventually, they are going to come to their senses. They’ll say,
“This maya is not giving me perfect happiness, and the scriptures have told me as much. And look, there’s this Guruji who’s telling me the same thing. He says there’s another path where you can attain true happiness. Let me follow him.”
There’s always a chance of that day coming, as long as you keep being reborn in this world again and again. But if you get moksh, yes, you have attained God. You’re free from maya, but you have no experience of God. This is not a good thing.
Therefore, even though moksh is a Divine state, Mahaprabhuji says it is the worst deception of all, because if you attain moksh, you will be bereft of your true prayojan (ultimate purpose) forever.
