Seva Done With the Mind Is the Topmost

Sushree Gopeshwari Devi Ji

Whatever action, karma, you do, it’s not only the karma in the mandir (temple), anywhere you are, whatever actions you do, whatever you eat, whatever tap you do, tapasya you do, whatever yagya you do, whatever daan you do, do it as an offering unto me (God).

यत्करोषि यदश्नासि यज्जुहोषि ददासि यत् | यत्तपस्यसि कौन्तेय तत्कुरुष्व मदर्पणम् ||
yat karoṣhi yad aśhnāsi yaj juhoṣhi dadāsi yatyat tapasyasi kaunteya tat kuruṣhva mad-arpaṇam

- Gita 9.27

What is doing in offering? Remembering the Divine beloved Lord.

You’ve got a mind. You don’t have wealth, your body is not good, you can’t do any physical seva, (but) you’ve got a mind.

And, the seva with the mind is the utmost, is the topmost, (it) is the one.

When your mind is in remembrance of the Lord, when your mind with love is getting attached to the Lord, then only you can start to do your monetary and your physical seva. If your mind is not in love with God, why will you give out any money to God? Your money will be spent on your most darling child or children or wife or husband, bringing gifts for them, not for God because that’s where the mind is attached.

But the moment your mind starts to fall in love with God and guru, when it starts to get attached to God and guru, your money, you want to use it in that field for the spiritual thing. And you want to physically also put in the effort to do a lot of physical seva.

So these two sevas are great helpers in progressing on your devotional path, but it will only be done when your mind starts to get attached with love.

And the actual seva which will be given to us on God realization will come to us only when we have already attained Divine love. Then we can render actual seva to God and guru.
