He (Shri Krishna) performed so many childhood leelas (Divine pastimes) to rejoice the gwalbals (cowherd boys), His mother, and the Gopis (milkmaids). But we always have to remember,
अजोऽपि सन्नव्ययात्मा भूतानामीश्वरोऽपि सन् |
प्रकृतिं स्वामधिष्ठाय सम्भवाम्यात्ममायया ||Ajo ’pi sannavyayātmā bhūtānām īśhvaro ’pi san.
Prakṛitiṁ svām adhiṣhṭhāya sambhavāmyātma-māyayā.- Gita 4.6
Shri Krishna says, “Even though I have no beginning, I am unborn, but I become the son of Yashoda and Nanda Baba. I become the son of Devaki and Vasudev. Even though I am the Supreme Lord of all living beings, I descend into this world, on the same earth where the souls are living. But don’t think that I’m not still the Supreme God.”
Little Krishna is crawling, and He can’t get across the sill of the door. He starts crying, and Mother Yashoda comes and picks Him up, saying, “It’s okay, my son. I’ll get rid of this dehali (threshold) first thing tomorrow! Don’t worry.”
How did God become so powerless? He becomes powerless due to the love of His devotees. He forgets His Godliness, but He’s still God. He’s still in His Divine abode, He’s still residing in the heart of every soul, and He’s still controlling the mayic (material) world.
He says, “Prakṛitim svām adhiṣhṭhāya, (प्रकृतिं स्वामधिष्ठाय)” meaning that He’s still the Lord of the universe. But using His Yogamaya (Divine energy) power, He manages all of this and He also forgets His Godliness and performs His beautiful childhood leelas (pastimes).
