There are two kinds of pride. The pride that each one of us have, and behold, it is false ego, false pride, maya pride. We are under maya. We are mayadheen (under the influence of maya) people and we all have this ahankar (ego).
अहंकार अति दुखद डमरुआ।
Ahankār ati dukhad damaruā.
The one which gives us the biggest pain.
The one which gives us the biggest pain. All the sorrows and miseries and pain, all the happiness is due to our own subtle mithya rambha (मिथ्या रम्भा), subtle false ego, pride - ashuddh ahankar.
And the Divine personalities, sometimes who are beyond maya; maya cannot go there, they are mayateet (beyond the influence of maya) personalities or even God, Kishori ji, mayadheesh (master of maya) personality, where ego can’t go, they also show ahankar like an actor in such a manner that you see the pride and the ego in them. This is shuddh ahankar. So never think we will have shuddh ahankar. We all have ashuddh, which is very bad.
For no good reason we have ego. We don't even have anything like Ravan. For Ravan to do ahankar that's fine. After all Ravan had in his fist the sun and the moon and the planets and not only this, He had the god of death, Yamraj, in his fist. He was tied to his bed on the headboard. He kept him there all the time. He had control over even death, yes. So for Ravan to do ahankar that's fine.
But what do we have? This body where filth only excretes from every pore and fiber of our being from top of our heads to the tip of our toe; everything is so mayic, material, filthy and dirty. Negativity is filled in रोम रोम rom-rom (every particle or pore) of our self. It’s negativity, and we have pride about things, “Oh I know everything. I know this. I don't need all this satsang etc.”
What is this going on? Questioning, comparison, arguments, competitions, jealousy, hatred, lust, greed, anger. Not only ahankar, but all these diseases and sicknesses of maya we are all afflicted with, remember. Never forget this.
Very few are the blessed ones who accept the fact, “Yes, I've got all these ailments and diseases and I suffer from it very badly, dangerously.” But 99.99% of us, “Oh yeah, I've got a little bit of this and a little bit of that. I don't think I've got any anger in me!” And whom are you asking? Your own intellect. Which is all intoxicated with ego and pride.
