Krishna's Three Types of Leelas

Swami Nikhiladnand Ji

We need the help of a rasik Mahapurush (Divine Saint filled with Divine love), someone who is of that level of Radha Krishna, who is qualified to be in the leelas (Divine pastimes). They can tell us some secrets about the leelas.

So, Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj, in His Radha Govind Geet; a very important book written in the form of Divine couplets, a poetic composition of 11,111 verses explains these truths in great detail. It’s called Radha Govind Geet.

In the largest section of this Radha Govind Geet, called Leela Madhuri (the sweetness of Divine pastimes), He describes the leelas of Radha Krishna. And in the beginning of this chapter, He says that Shri Krishna has three kinds of leelas.

There are some that are called lokashiksha (for the instruction of the world), some are called antarang (inner or confidential), and some are called asambhav (apparently impossible or inconceivable).

He says the first one,( lokashiksha) an ordinary person can understand—it makes sense to the material mind. The other two, antarang and asambhav, we can never understand with our material analysis.

The first one, lokashikshan, means Shri Krishna performs certain actions very straightforwardly to set an example of how people should live in the world. For instance, when He was in Dwarika (His royal city), He would rise early every morning, take a bath, and perform pooja (worship).

Imagine! Swayam Bhagwan (God Himself) performing pooja! Of whom? Of Himself, of course. Yet He was setting an example: rise early, perform devotion, and fulfill one’s duties. Then He would also give charity every day, because He was the ruler of Dwarika.
