Can a Good Soul Be Born in a Demon Form?

Swami Nikhiladnand Ji

There are all kinds of beings in this world and they can all be categorized into three sections: sattvic beings, rajas beings and tamas beings. Sattvic beings are the devatas who live in swarg (the celestial abodes), and are called the celestial gods. They’re mayic; they’re not God. God is beyond these three qualities: sattva, raj, tam. But we call them celestial ‘gods’ because they’re very powerful. God with a small ‘g’ you can say. They’re sattvic; they’re pure beings but still material.

Then human beings come in the rajas class. We’re not great in terms of goodness but we’re not evil through and through. So we’re in the middle - rajas.

And then you have rakshas, asur. These are tamas beings.

And actually a soul can be born in any of these life forms.

So Prahlad happened to be born in a tamas yoni (womb), such a life form that we call a demon, yet he was born a devotee of God. In his mind he thought of nothing else but Bhagwan Shri Krishna.
