Mannimittaṃ kṛitaṃ pāpam api dharmāya kalpate.
Mām anādṛitya dharmo ‘pi pāpaṃ syān matprabhāvataḥ.

Whenever you are remembering Me, any moment, when your mind is attached to Me, only that time you are not committing sins. Otherwise, the rest of the time, you are doing nothing except committing sins because now your mind is in the area of maya (illusion).

As soon as the mind goes in the area of maya, we are compelled to commit sins only. We cannot do anything else. That’s why we have to detach our mind from the material world, and we are supposed to attach it to God. Most of the time, we should do this kind of effort to keep it attached to God and the matters of God. So, we hardly do, we hardly perform, good deeds in a day for altogether one hour, half an hour, that’s all. So, every day, for the rest of 23 hours, we are committing sins only.

So, if we are doing some good deeds also, the heap of our bad deeds is so big that if we are performing good deeds for the rest of the time, even then we cannot equal the amount of good and bad deeds.

So, we should not have this kind of pride because, “Probably I did very good deeds; that’s why God has given me this human form. This is only His grace.”

Even if we have done good deeds in our previous lives, we don’t remember. We have no remembrance of what we did in our past lives, still because He is causelessly merciful. That’s why He is giving the fruits of our good actions. And He is so merciful; there is no limit to His mercy. He is so merciful that we have been committing sins in our previous lives, in our millions of lives, and in this life as well.

If we have been abusing God, if we have been criticizing God and the devotees and the path of devotion, etc., all the time, but now, if we understood. Now, at the age of 50 we understood,

“No, we have to worship God. God alone is mine. Why am I running towards this material world? Just for nothing. It is a mirage. I cannot get anything in this world. Why am I going there?”

If he realizes it now, even at the age of 50, and he surrenders himself to God, then the most merciful God forgets about all the sins which we have committed in millions of lives. They are not limited. Our sins are not limited. Imagine, if we committed only one sin in one life, only one sin in every life, even then we have spent innumerable lives. So still, from that kind of calculation also, we have committed unlimited sins, innumerable sins. Still, if we surrender ourselves now, then the merciful God will immediately be happy, and He will bestow His grace upon us.
