We Have to Practice Prem

Swami Maheshvarand Ji

Prem (Divine love), we have to practice. Prem is Divine.

Gaurang Mahaprabhu says in the Śhikṣhāṣhṭak:

आश्लिष्य वा पादरतां पिनष्टु मामदर्शनान्मर्महतां करोतु वा ।
यथा तथा वा विदधातु लम्पटो मत्प्राणनाथस्तु स एव नापरः ॥

Āśliṣhya vā pādaratāṁ pinaṣhṭu mām adarśhanān marma-hatāṁ karotu vā.
Yathā tathā vā vidadhātu lampato mat-prāṇa-nāthas tu sa eva nāparaḥ.

- Śhikṣhāshṭak 8

“Hey, Shree Krishna,” Gaurang Mahaprabhu is saying, “Hey, Krishna, there are three ways in which You can behave towards me. Either You can embrace me lovingly as one who is very dear to You, or You can be indifferent to me, neutral, and pretend I don’t even exist, or You can take Your sudarshan chakra and take off my head, trample all over me like an enemy. However You behave towards me will make no difference. My love will keep increasing regardless of how You behave!”

This is love! We all claim to love Maharaj Ji, love Radha-Krishna.

“Oh, hey, Krishna! Oh Radha-Rani!”

And you come to Radha Madhav Dham, and you get news that your house has been burned down. Someone stole your morukha or your child died!

“Ah, I came to worship Radha-Krishna at Radha Madhav Dham and this happened! Ah, there’s no Krishna! How can Krishna love me? I love no Krishna!”

A devotee would have said, “Thank You, Krishna. I’ve lost all my wealth! Thank You, Radha-Krishna! Thank You, Radha-Rani! My house is burned down! Thank You, Radha-Rani. Thank You, Maharaj Ji!”

Can we do that?

आठवँ जथालाभ संतोषा। सपनेहुँ नहिं देखइ परदोषा॥

Āṭhavam̐ jathālābh santoṣhā. Sapanehu̐ nahiṁ dēkhai paradōṣhā.

- Ramcharitmanas, Aranya Kanda 3.35.8

Bhagwan Shree Ram is saying to Shabari, “Shabari, the eighth type of devotion is to be contented, happy, whether in gain or loss. You’ve lost everything, and you’re still happy!”

Then we know bhakti (devotion). So, you don’t know anything about love.
