Bhagwan Krishna says to Uddho in Uddho Gita:
निरपेक्षं मुनिं शान्तं निर्वैरं समदर्शनम् ।
अनुव्रजाम्यहं नित्यं पूयेयेत्यङ्घ्रिरेणुभिः ॥Nirapekṣhaṁ muniṁ śhāntaṁ nirvairaṁ sama-darśhanam.
Anuvrajāmy ahaṁ nityaṁ pūyeyety aṅghri-reṇubhiḥ.- Bhagwatam 11.14.16
Bhagwan Krishna says to Uddho, “Uddho, I run after My devotees, My fully surrendered devotees, like a slave.”
Uddho says, “My Lord, why? To protect them?”
“No, no, no, Uddho! I do that already, sitting in their heart.”
“Then why do You run after them?”
“So that the dust of their feet will come on Me, and I’ll become purified.”
In other words, He becomes a slave to His devotees. That amount of power we have in our hand. Thus, we are the makers of our destiny. You make destiny. It’s not written in the stars. It’s not written in any book. We make destiny.
And as I said, if something is even there, you can’t do anything. The Saint sees ‘lalat likhit’ (written on the forehead), ‘bhal likhit’. All these words you’ll find, lalat, bhal, bhar - it means the forehead. And only one can see is a Saint, and he wouldn’t tell you, as I mentioned. Why? Because we’re going to waste valuable time to change something we have no control over.
Instead, the Saint says, “Kāl kā bharosā nahīṃ hai.” (“काल का भरोसा नहीं है ।” - there is no guarantee of time).
There is no guarantee we’ll live to see tomorrow. Do not procrastinate. Do what you’re supposed to do right now. Don’t keep putting off. This is what the Saint tells us. Nobody knows when you can die.
“Oh,” we say, “okay, okay, okay. I’m not going to blame destiny and Bhagwan. If my destiny is bad, my luck is bad, it means I did wrong things, and I have to enjoy the fruits. Now I’ll do good things, so my destiny will be good.”
But there’s another big problem we have. What is that? Kāl (time).
Kāl, kāl hi karm hi, Ishwar hi - I told you three, right? So, we talked about Ishwar (God). We blame God, karm (actions), bhagya (destiny). We blame time.
पुरुष बली नहीं होत है, समय होत बलवान।
भीलन लूटी गोपिका, सोई अर्जुन सोई बान॥Puruṣh balī nahīṃ hot hai, samay hot balavān.
Bhīlana lūṭī gopikā, soī arjun soī bān.- Tulsidas, Doha Sangrah, 4.12
In other words, this thing which is time is so powerful that it will come by itself and do everything.
… प्रातर्भवामि वसुधाधिपचक्रवर्ती ।
सोऽहं व्रजामि विपिने जटिलस्तपस्वी ॥… Prātar bhavāmi vasudhādhipachakravartī.
So’haṁ vrajāmi vipine jaṭilas tapasvī.- Mahanataka, cited in Subhashit Padya Ratnakar, Part 04 (partial)
We say, “When the time comes, that morning itself I’ll become a king, Raja (king). Now I’ll just roam about like a loafer, without any care.”
In other words, this time is such a thing that when the time comes, it will do everything automatically by itself.
The time has come. The day has come. Do what you have to do right now.
This time is another disease we have, just like destiny and blaming God. And anyone who blames all these three things,
सो परत्र दुख पावइ सिर धुनि धुनि पछिताइ।
So parat dukkh pāvahi, sir dhuni dhuni pachhitāi.
“You’re not going to get happiness in the here and the hereafter. And afterwards, when we lose this golden opportunity, we’re going to beat our heads and repent.”
