The Crow (Jayant) That Dared Touch Sita

Swami Maheshvarand Ji

सीता चरन चोंच हति भागा। मूढ़ मंदमति कारन कागा॥
चला रुधिर रघुनायक जाना। सींक धनुष सायक संधाना॥

Sītā charan choṇch hati bhāgā. Mūḍh mandmati kāran kāgā.
Chalā rudhir Raghunāyak jānā. Sīṇk dhanuṣ sāyak saṇdhānā.

‘Sita charan (holy feet of Sita) chauch hati bhāgā (the crow fled after pecking)’. What did he do? This very dirty fellow, Jayant, in the form of a crow, went and pecked the lotus feet of Mother Sita. This foolish, mūḍh mandmati, extremely foolish guy and extremely dull-witted, in the form of this crow, this Jayant, the son of Indra, the king of heaven, pecked the tender lotus feet of Mother Sita, and blood started to flow.

Bhagwan (God) Shree Ram is lying (down with His head in Mother Sita’s lap), and Mother Sita remains (still), even though the blood is flowing. She does not want to disturb Shree Ram, Her husband, the Lord. But the blood is flowing, and soon it runs toward Bhagwan Shree Ram. He feels that warmth turning cool. And even while there, with his eyes closed, He saw everything Jayant had done, dekh liya!

He got up with anger. He said nothing to Mother Sita. He got up and took a blade of grass and turned it into an agni bān, an arrow of fire, and He sent it after Jayant. Jayant first went to his own father, Indra.

“Hey, father, trahimam (save me)! Trahimam (save me)! Oh my dear father, you are Indra, the king of heaven, the king of the devatas. Please protect me!”

Indra said, “No! No! You have gone against the spiritual government. If I try to protect you, I’ll be aiding and abetting. I’m going to get punished too. I can’t help you!”

He went to Bhagwan Shiva and Shiv Ji said, “No, I cannot help you!”

He went to Brahma, the creator, begging but Brahma said,

“No, I cannot help you!”

Nobody could help him. And this arrow is burning him. The agni bān (arrow of fire) follows him everywhere. He is running. He is a devata (celestial being); he has special powers. He can fly and he is going across all ‌three worlds, but the arrow does not leave him. The arrow of the Lord.
