The main point is (that) on the path of bhakti (devotion), it is not the path of ending desires or attachments. It is the path of diverting them in the correct direction, so you get the correct result that you were desiring all along anyway, which is ānand (Divine bliss).
You can keep looking here for ānand, just like a person can keep doing manthan (churning) of chūne kā pãnī (lime water). Lime water is a white liquid. It looks like milk,
“I should be able to churn it, right?”
That person churned the white liquid and got butter out of it. Now I am also churning a white liquid. Go on churning for millions of lifetimes. You will never get butter out of chūne kā pānī.
Similarly, we keep thinking, “Ismeṇ ānand hogā.” (There will be happiness in this).
“Aaj tak nahiṇ milā hai, lekin abhī milne wālā hai!” (I haven’t gotten it till now, but now I am surely going to get it).
Okay, go on doing manthan of that chūne kā pānī for as long as you want, or divert your effort and do the manthan of the real milk. The ānand is not in the world in the first place, and that is what you seek. So seek it from Shree Krishna. That is the beginning of devotion.
So the main point is do not be afraid of devotion. Do not be afraid of spirituality. Spirituality solves your problems. It does not create more problems for you. It reduces the negativities of the mind. It gives you the real happiness you are looking for, which calms the mind and makes you more able to manage all of the situations you have to (face) in the world.
