O Sakhl! Time is extremely powerful.
Ek dinā Hari hamahiṁ manāvat, hauṁ baiṭhati kari mān.
There was a time when we used to do maan and Shyamasundar would appease us constantly.
Āju manāvat prāṇ jāt pai, Kānha karat nahiṁ kān.
Now we are trying to appease Him, and exhausting ourselves completely by this effort, but He doesn’t seem to listen!
Ek dinā Hari mohiṁ bin pal chhin, rahi na sakat thal ān.
There was a time when He could not stay without us, for even a moment anywhere else.
Āju vikal ham pal pal talaphati, tajat na Kubjā–dhyān.
Now we remain restlessly yearning for Him unceasingly, whereas He remains engrossed in Kubja.
Ek dinā Hari hate khilaunā, sunati chhāchh dai tān.
There was a time when He was a toy in our hands, playing His flute for us to listen and singing, just in order to get a little buttermilk from us!
Āju ‘Kripalu’ bhaye Hari dūbhar, gūlar phūl samān.
In the words of Shree Kripalu Ji Maharaj, the Gopis say, “Whereas today, He is as impossible to see as the flower of the wild fig!”
