Question: Why Can’t I Think of God During Hard Times?

Swami Nikhilanand Ji _ 07 19 2020

A devotee’s question: “When things are calm, like in this COVID situation, it’s easy to meditate, as we don’t have to go to work, less hustle and bustle in our life. But when hard things come, I can’t think of God. Typically, people say in hard times, people remember God, but it’s the opposite for me.”

Swami Nikhilanand Ji’s answer: Actually, I’ve seen that in many, it seems to be divided half and half. Some people remember God more easily when times are good, when things are stress-free. I tend to be more like that.

And then, when things become stressful, then a person forgets God.

And then there is another type of person who, when things are good, then they forget about God, and when things become stressful, then they look toward God. So it’s just a difference in our personality. It’s not something to correct.

She’s (devotee) asking any guidance on how to improve. It’s not something you need to improve on. It’s just something you can notice about your own personality. And of course, whether you’re the one kind or the other kind, the goal is to remember Radha Krishna all the time.

So that’s what we need to improve on. And for that, we already know. Shree Maharaj Ji has told us, do Radhe breathing throughout the day. And at certain intervals, stop what you’re doing and actually visualize God and Guru being there with you, just for a few moments, and then go on with your work.
