Hamāro kaun banego lāl?
Mother Yashoda is trying to get Shyamasundar to drink His milk.... She says, "Who wants to be my Darling Son?
Hamarī bāt kaun mānego. “hauṁ” kah Hari tatakāl.
Who will be good and do what he is told? Before Balaram can respond, Kanha eagerly says, "Me!"
Kajarī gāy dūdh ko pīheṃ. Yah suni bhajyo Gupāl.
Yashoda says, "Who will drink the milk of the black cow (kajari)?" Hearing the word 'milk' Gopal tries to run away.
Maharī pakari kar bahu samujhāvati. nahiṇ samujhat haṭh-bāl.
Mother Yashoda grabs Him by the hand and tries to get Him to drink His milk in various ways, but He stubbornly resists.
Jo yah dūdh piyat hai vākī, choṭī hoti vishāl.
Finally Mother Yashoda says, "The plait of hair of the person who drinks this milk grows really long and He grows up very fast."
Begi baṛo hwai jāt, Kānh suni, phaṃsyo kīr jyoṇ jāl.
Innocent Kanha was captured by these words as a parrot gets caught in a net.
Ghūṃṭek piyat lakhat puni choṭihiṇ, haṃsat sakal mili gwāl.
But after every gulp, He examines His hair to see if it has grown and all the cowherds start laughing at His innocence.
Imi dhokhehiṇ pay piye Lāl jab, chalīṇ Yashomati chāl.
After having drunk His milk because of this deception, Mother Yashoda plays her next move.
Jo ik bār 'Kripalu' kahe piya, choṭī jāti patāl.
In the words of Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj, she says, "The child who drinks his milk after having been told just once, gets such a long braid of hair, that it reaches the netherworld."
